Influence of Virtual reality on the Shoe industry

We live in an era where everybody knows what VR is, but to sum it up it is an experience in which a person can interact within the artificial 3-D environment using VR goggles, gloves with sensors, and even phones. However, as our generation is getting more tech-savvy, it is easier for the developers to create a different world, where millennial are more attracted towards technology than reality.

The current innovations, ideas, and creativity are constantly emerging, leading to a new stream of designs for all seasons. Many luxury fashion brands have started giving the virtual experience to their customers by using VR mirrors where you can see how you’ll look wearing that outfit.

However, now VR is changing the world into wearing virtual shoes in reality. Ever wished of how a particular pair of shoes you saw Kanye wearing might look on you? If yes, then you have got your wish granted. There are only a handful of platforms that allows you to try out shoes virtually.

But how does it work? Users can scan the shape of their feet and determine the best fit with different styles of footwear using Artificial intelligence and machine learning. Brands like Gucci, Adidas, Dior, and Nike have started providing experience to users by giving a 360-degree view of footwear, allowing them to change the color, texture, and background of the screen.

All you have to do is simply download and open the app, point it towards your feet, and Voila! You can see your new favorite pair of shoes at your feet. These platforms allow you to access a much larger variety of shoes than any brick-and-mortar store can offer since you can shop online and buy from any store in the world. You can try multiple shoes and buy them at your comfort. This also saves time for the store staff where he ends up going back and forth between the store and stock room.

Customers are given the opportunity to match their shoes with any outfit in their wardrobe, which they would not be able to do at the store. They aren’t the perfect fit or size, but they give buyers an idea of how the style will look. This feature has also helped manage customer experience by reducing returns.

In today’s modern world, where consumers are increasingly inclined to do everything online, these platforms play a critical part in developing customer loyalty. More customer experiences are being added to bridge the gap between online and offline stores.

Some customers prefer to try on their shoes in-store to ensure that they are comfortable and of good quality before making a purchase. While others are persuaded by this technology to give it a go via virtual reality.

Will you buy a new pair of sneakers using Virtual Reality or will you stick to traditional methods?

So, what’s your take on it?

Earthquake resisting structures

Earthquake caused due to the seismic waves created due to sudden release of energy in the Earth’s Lithosphere, strong enough to propel objects and people and wreck destruction across entire cities.

Earthquakes have been a major threat to human lives and the infrastructure as a whole. An earthquake leaves behind a catastrophic result causing severe damage to lives.

Over the years efforts have been made to avoid these catastrophic effects of the earthquake. However, it is not possible to construct a building that is completely earthquake proof. Engineers have found various ways to cut down the effects on seismic waves subjected to the building.

These methods have proved to be efficient to a great extent resulting in preserving numerous valuable lives as well as infrastructure.

However, the earthquake resisting methods applied to the buildings depends on how frequent earthquake takes place in an area. The areas prone to frequent earthquake have to adopt exclusive methods as compared to that of the areas which experience less frequent earthquakes.

New designs and new construction materials have been introduced by engineers. Here are some of the methods to make a building Earthquake resistant.

1. Create a flexible foundation

By lifting the building’s foundation, the ground forces can be resisted. Base isolation involves construction of building on top of flexible pads made of steel, rubber and lead. As the base moves during the earthquake, the isolators vibrate while the structure itself remains steady. This effectively helps to absorb seismic waves and prevent them from traveling through a building.

2. Counter Forces with Damping

In this method shock absorbers are used to reduce the magnitude of shockwaves. This mechanism is also used in cars, which are used as shock absorbers. This is done in two ways; Vibration control devices and pendulum dampers.

Vibration Control Devices

In this method, dampers are placed at each building level between column and beam. These dampers consist of piston heads inside a cylinder filled with silicone oil. On occurrence of earthquake, the building transfers the vibration energy into the pistons, pushed against the oil. Furthermore, this energy is transformed into heat, dissipating the force of the vibrations.

Pendulum Power

This method is mostly used in skyscrapers. A large ball is suspended with steel cables with a system of hydraulics at the top of the building. The ball acts as a pendulum on the occurrence of the earthquake, which makes the ball to move in the opposite direction to stabilize the direction.

3. Shield Building from Vibrators

Researchers are experimenting with ways buildings can deflect the energy from earthquakes. This method is also known as “seismic invisibility cloak”, which involves creating a cloak of 100 concentric plastic and concrete rings in and burying it at least three feet beneath the foundation of the building.

The seismic waves are redirected to move through the outer rings for easier travel, which as a result, channels the waves away from the building and dissipates into the plates in the ground.

4. Reinforce the Building Structure

Buildings need to redistribute the forces that travel through them during a seismic event. Shear walls, cross braces, diaphragms and moment-resisting frames are central to reinforcing a building. Shear walls efficiently transfers the earthquake forces.

These walls are made of panels, which help a building keep its shape during movement. These walls are supported by a diagonal cross braces. These steel braces have the ability to support compression and tension, which helps to counteract the pressure and push forces back to the foundation.

Moment resisting frames provide more flexibility in a building’s design. It is placed among the joints of the building and allows for the columns and beams to bend while the joints remain rigid.

The concept of home can be different for everyone. For some it can be time spent with family, for some it can be a comfortable living space where they can move freely and do activities, for some it might be a  place of leisure, for some the place to wear off all the misery of the work/stress. If differs from people to people. It is different for everyone. Building walls, roofs or floor does not mean to be a home.

To be precise, it can be termed as a house. As it has nothing in it yet. No family, no life, no sound, no movement. It is stationary and lifeless. But what adds life to it, is the people who live in it. It is the way they decorate their houses.
